Band History, The Story So Far

The original idea for the band was fro Richard Bliss (Rhythm guitar and lead vocals, Lennon) He came up with the idea as he is an avid Beatles fan. Richard approached Paul Clark (Bass & Lead Vocals, Macartney)in February 2007 and asked him to come on board. Paul didn't take much persuading as he also is a massive Beatles fan. Their next target was a drummer. Through frequenting jam sessions they came across Steve Browne (Drummer & vocals, Ringo) but did not realize that he also was a great Beatles fan. Steve joined the band in March 2007.

Over the coming months we rehearsed 3 times a week, every week. We wanted to bring a lead guitarist onboard but only when we where ready as a rhythm section. We made a point of not doing any gigs as we only wanted to be seen in public when we where ready, Too many bands go out to early and get a bad reputation before they have chance to show their true potential. We concentrated mainly on the early beatles tracks from the early albums like Help, Hard days night, With the Beatles and Please please me.

In November 2007 We were doing very well and the hunt began for a George Harrison. We tried out a few including Malcolm Adams, a solo artist performing mainly in the Jalon valley and also Jerry, a liverpool lad who was crazy about the beatles (now one of our greatest fans) Finally we found Bernie Waterland. As soon as we spoke to him, we knew he was right. He worked his socks of to catch up with the band and by February 2008 he had. Unfortunately at this time Richard started to encounter a few problems outside of the band and regrettably had to quit. The rest of the band where gutted. We had booked our 1st real GIG at the Shamrock in Moraira and had only 3 weeks to find a replacement. Steve approached Tony Rivers and ask him to dep for the upcoming gig so that we did not have to cancel. The turned out to be a great move as Tony fitted right in and enjoyed the 1st gig with the band so much, decided to remain and replace Richard. We had our Lennon again.

The next few weeks in the rehearsal room the band decided they would like to perform some of the later beatles songs. This proved a problem as the later stuff required a keyboard player. The solution was right under our noses. Anthony Rivers, Tony's son. He plays Keyboards, Acoustic guitar and sings great backing vocals. At last the band is complete.

Rubber Soul are now gigging on a regular basis to packed out venues, We are creating a bit of a reputation as a great band. In June 2008 Rubber Soul are scheduled to appear on stage at the Moraira Music Festival. This will give us the platform to show off our talents to hundreds of people. The future looks bright.
